Phobia Game Studio’s ‘reverse horror’ title – which is set to launch on the PC next year – is also being released on Microsoft’s console as the company prepares to unveil the follow-up to 2016 side-scrolling action game ‘Butcher’.

‘Carrion’ sees its players take on the role of an “amorphous creature of unknown origin” as they’re set loose on the shadowy and claustrophobic corridors of an industrial complex.

Developer Phobia has said:

“Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility.

“Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.”

The game looks to turn the horror genre on its head with players taking control of the tentacle monster to target its human captors.

Although no firm release date has been confirmed just yet, ‘Carrion’ publisher Devolver Digital has told fans to expect a launch sometimes in 2020.

The “boutique game label” describes itself as a firm collaborating with independent developers to create “original” and “eccentric” titles.

On the official website, Devolver Digital says:

“A collection of individuals works with independent developers from all over the world to produce and promote some of the most original, eccentric, and beloved games of the past decade.”
