Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios Chairman has announced he’s stepping down from the role, which has seen him lead the innovation for PlayStation for the past three decades or more.

Sony tweeted:

“It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE.

“His visionary leadership will be greatly missed.

“We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn! (sic)”

The tech giant didn’t give a reason for his departure or name his replacement.

Shawn started working for the firm in public relations in 1987, he then worked as an assistant to Sony founder Akio Morita.

He then worked his way up into the role of Chief Operating Officer and onto president of PlayStation in the US.

Shawn is yet to comment publicly on the news.
