Universal Studios is opening a Nintendo theme park in Japan next year.

The video game attraction is set to launch in “spring” 2020 with the first phase featuring a Super Mario Kart ride alongside a short omnimover-type ride called Yoshi’s Adventure.

Speaking at Comcast’s 2019 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Tom Williams – Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts – said:

“It’s the best, and we’ve tested them all, and they’re killers. It’s a great lineup.

“It takes it to the whole next level. It’s gonna redefine what a park experience is like. It really is special.”

He also revealed there will be an interactive element for the park – which will be built on three levels – involving magnet bracelets bearing the iconic red Mario icon.

Williams said the scorekeeping throughout the land will interface “back with your game console so you can build on it and come back again”.
