Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ is one of Nintendo Switch’s top selling games in the past fiscal year, despite only being out two weeks.

The brand new social simulation video game was unveiled on March 20 and by the end of March, it had already sold a whopping 11.77 million units, putting it in the top 10 of all Nintendo Switch games purchased that year.

For ‘Animal Crossing’, 3.84 million units were sold in Japan whilst the other 7.93 million units were sold internationally.

The only title to eclipse it was ‘Pokémon Sword / Pokémon Shield’, which sold 17.37 million units throughout the year – 4.52 million coming from Japan and 12.85 million units internationally.

Elsewhere in the top five were ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ (8.08 million), ‘Luigi’s Mansion 3’ (6.33 million) and Super Mario Maker 2 (5.48 million).

As part of Nintendo’s fiscal report for up to the end of March 2020, the ‘Animal Crossing’ games were comparatively analysed for selling through Japan, the United States and Europe.

The most recent addition – ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ – was the top seller, eclipsing all other titles. In the first six weeks since their release, they sold 13.41 million units, whilst ‘Animal Crossing: Wild World’ (2005) sold around two million units and ‘Animal Crossing: New Leaf’ (2012) sold approximately three million units.
