An increasing number of Americans are gaming more often, and on more platforms than ever before, according to a report by the NPD Group.

Mat Piscatella, an NPD group analyst, said:

“Video games are one of the primary ways friends and family are staying connected through a difficult time.”

Research found that three out of every four Americans now play video games, which represents a rise of 32 million people since 2018.

What’s more, the study discovered that people are spending more time playing their consoles, with the number of gamers playing less than five hours a week having fallen eight percent since 2018.

Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that US video game spending hit a 10-year high in June.

A study found that sales through the month hit $6.6 billion on hardware, software, and accessories, meaning US spend reached the highest point since 2010.

June sales were up 26 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the report, which underlined the impact of the pandemic on the gaming industry.
