The Sega Mega Drive Mini has been delayed.
Those hoping to get their hands on the much-anticipated smaller version of the iconic console, which will rival the NES Classic, the SNES Classic and the PlayStation One Classic, and come with 40 games pre-stored, in Europe and the Middle East will have to wait an extra two weeks due to “unavoidable logistical challenges”.
Sega tweeted:
“Unfortunately due to unavoidable logistical challenges, the European and Middle Eastern release of the Mega Drive Mini will be delayed by two weeks, to October 4th 2019. We appreciate your patience.”
The games include ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, ‘Space Harrier 2’ and ‘Altered Beast’.
The video game developer and publisher first released their legendary 16-bit Mega Drive console – which was known as the Sega Genesis in North America – in 1988, and in commemoration of the console’s 30th anniversary, it had been announced that they will be releasing a miniature “classic edition” of the device.
Sega revealed the console in a picture posted to their Twitter account which featured the small device on display at Sega Fest in Japan 2018.
A tweet from AtGames’ Twitter account read:
“The rumors are true! Sega is going to release the Mega Drive Mini in Japan, powered by the latest AtGames technology. This same new and improved technology will find its way into the US and other territories later this year! #MegaDriveMini (sic)”
However, shortly after posting confirmation of its involvement with the console on social media, AtGames deleted the tweet from their account, sparking confusion amongst fans.
The Sega Mega Mini Drive will cost only £69.99.
