The popular action-adventure video game – which is developed by From Software and published by Activision – was only released in March, but it was the big winner at the games worlds answer to the Oscars held at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday Night (12.12.19).
‘Death Stranding’ picked up three awards for Best Game Direction, Best Score/Music, and Mads Mikkelsen for Best Performance.
There was some controversy surrounding the latter game’s wins considering the CEO of the awards ceremony, Geoff Keighley is such good friends with the franchise’s creator Hideo Kojima.
Another surprise of the night was ‘Devil May Cry 5’ beating ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’ to Best Action Game.
Elsewhere, ‘Fortnite’ was named Best Ongoing Game, ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ took home Best Fighting Game, ‘Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’ won Best Sports/Racing Game and Best Multiplayer Game went to ‘Apex Legends’.
